About the
UltraBlock Forensic Card Reader and Writer
The UltraBlock Forensic Card Reader is switchable from Read-Only to Read-Write operation. In Read-Only mode the unit can be used for forensic acquisition of information found on multimedia and memory cards. In Read-Write mode the unit is able to write to memory cards for testing or validation. This card reader is the same unit integrated into our FRED systems and are exclusively available from Digital Intelligence.
Note: The UltraBlock Forensic Card Readers are NOT off-the-shelf readers with unknown forensic implications. Plus, these card readers are SDHC compatible.
Devices which store data on memory or multimedia cards include Digital Cameras, MP3 Players, Voice Recorders, PDA's, Cell Phones, Computers, and other digital storage devices. Using an integrated swing-out connector, the Forensic Card Readers can be connected directly to a USB 2.0 (or USB 1.x) port on your workstation or laptop. Although no cables are required to connect these readers, an additional USB type B port is included in the unit to accept a cable if desired.
Read Only and Read Write Functionality
The UltraBlock FCR can work either as a write blocker (Read Only mode) or as a read writable device. This function is set by a switch on the side of the Ultra Block.
NOTE: In order to change the functionality, the device must be disconnected from the computer. Changing the switch while the UltraBlock FCR is connected to the computer WILL NOT change its functionality.
When the card is in Read Only mode the front red LED will be lit. The green LED is the device access light and will light when the system is communicating with the media.

Compact Flash Card (CFC) - MicroDrive (MD) - Memory Stick Card (MSC)
