USB3 MULTIMEDIA FORENSIC CARD READER FIRMWARE UPDATE
We recommend you perform the following procedure ONLY if this update applies to your Forensic Card Reader.
To determine if you may be affected, make sure that your reader is attached to your system and verify the following property for your card reader from the Windows Device Manager.
From Device Manager, select the Realtek Card Reader. If it is not present, please update the device driver. Media does not have to be present in the reader.
From the Properties of the device, select Details and "Device instance path" in the property drop down control. The firmware date as shown below is 2015, May 11. If the firmware begins with 2015 AND is prior to 201511181404 (which is 2015, Nov 18), we recommend you update the firmware.
Do not attempt the update if the firmware does not resemble the 2015 date shown above as this will render the card reader unusable.
FIRMWARE UPDATE PROCESS
The update utility requires a USB 2.0 connection. If your reader is integrated into your FRED, you will need to remove it from your system as it is connected internally to a USB 3.0 host controller.
1. Download and extract the firmware update utility and note the location of the firmware .bin file.
Start the update program and click the "C" button to change the configuration options.
Make sure to specify the location of the .bin file in the FLASH area of the "1. EFUSE/FLASH/EEPROM" tab (all other options should be left unchanged).
With the update utility running, connect the card reader to a USB 2.0 port (typically the port will have a black insert).
The update utility should recognize the reader and perform the update automatically. Please wait until the program completes and verifies that the update was applied successfully. You can repeat the process by simply disconnecting the updated reader and connecting another reader.
In rare instances, the update may not complete successfully. If this occurs, please contact Digital Intelligence for a replacement reader.
